Panfilov, Misha: Where The Birds Fly LP

An incredible record from the great Misha Panfilov, and a set that further marks his move from deep funk into the world of jazz – with sounds that are soulful, complex, and very different than his earlier work on funky 45s! There's a really modal groove to most of these tracks – kind of early 60s spiritual jazz, with straighter jazz moments coming into play with more exotic themes at times – which are then followed by these warmer moments that almost have an Italian soundtrack approach, but looser and more organic too – all of which makes for a wicked blend of modes that may well make the album one of the most striking in Misha's mighty catalog! Titles include "New Day", "Luminous", "Full Of Life", "Guided By The Wind", "Away We Drove", and "When I See You".
