Panfilov Septet, Misha: Live In Leipzig And Berlin LP

Massively funky work from the great Misha Panfilov – an artist who can really cook up a great funky 45 in the studio, but who also sounds fantastic here at the head of a larger combo too! The tracks have this fluid energy – with wicked grooves at the bottom, and thoughtful jazzy solos over the top – lots of great electric piano work, plus trombone, tenor, flute, and other instrumentation that has a great way of clustering together on the grooves, then really opening up at the more individual moments! The keyboard work alone is worth the price of admission, and at times the proceedings take on a much more spiritual vibe than you might expect from Misha, especially on the album's longer tracks. Titles include "New Orbits", "Dryland", "The Sky For You & I", and "Follow The Clouds".
