Lacy, Steve: The Straight Horn Of Steve Lacy LP
Availability: | Out of stock |
Steve Lacy is widely recognized as one of the most important players of soprano saxophone in jazz. Recorded by Candid A&R man and founder Nat Hentoff at the Nola Penthouse Studios in New York City and released in 1961, The Straight Horn of Steve Lacy was only his third date as a leader. Lacy had a long and prolific career and his playing is featured on recordings by Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Max Roach, Thelonious Monk, and Cecil Taylor. There are two compositions from Cecil Taylor covered here, and three from Monk. The music of Monk became a permeant part of Lacey's repertoire, and we see the origins of that theme here on this classic recording. Featuring Charles Davis, John Ore, and Roy Haynes. Remastered 180g vinyl LP.
