Big Black was started by Steve Albini in 1982 while he was living in Evanston, Illinois, and attending Northwestern University. By 1984, the band did some touring and signed a deal with Homestead Records. They recorded one more time with Jeff Pezzati on bass, which resulted in their Homestead debut, the Racer X EP, and the start of the Il Duce 7". After that, Jeff returned full time to Naked Raygun. "We liked to think we were ahead of our time," Albini stated. "Now that time has caught up with us - well, this isn't such a swell place, and having gotten here first doesn't make it any nicer." Big Black's 6-song Racer X EP is back on vinyl remastered by Albini and Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering.
