Mars Volta: Amputechture LP

2006's Amputechture is the third full-length offering from experimental Los Angeles-based post-punk/prog-rock group The Mars Volta and follow-up to 2005's Frances The Mute. Produced by guitarist/songwriter Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Amputechture marks the band's first studio effort with the assistance of guitarist/sound manipulator Paul Hinojos (At the Drive-In, Sparta) and the final appearance of drummer Jon Theodore (Queens of the Stone Age). The highly sought after 8-song set is as dynamically diverse as anything in the band's catalog, with the piercing wail of Cedric Bixler Zavala and the guitar heroics of Rodriguez-Lopez (with some help from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante), as explosive and unhinged as ever.
