Whitefield, JJ: Exotic Meditations / Sloppy Souls LP

JJ Whitefield's a funky master – responsible for so many different records and projects over the years – and here, he continues a recent dive into sound library funk, handled in a fantastic mode that gives us two different styles! Side one is "Exotic Meditations" – tracks that blend core funky rhythms with more exotic touches – some Ethio jazz, Mid East elements, and other cool bits – all of which make for some very groovy sounds! Side two is "Sloppy Souls" – tunes that have a nice slow-stepping funky vibe – almost late nite modes, but still with a nice crackle at the bottom – and an approach that definitely has JJ doing a lot more, with less! Tunes include "Assra Hulet", "Shattered Dreams", "The Silence That Lasts", "Moving Air", "Assra Sost", "Trip To Cairo", "Assra Amist", and "Morning Shift".
