Kuti, Fela / Femi Kuti: Water No Get Enemy / Truth Don Die w/ MAW / Kerri Chandler Remixes 12"

The infamous, much-sampled B-side of 'Expensive Shit', one of the first on Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti's own Sounds Workshop. 'Water No Get Enemy' tapers off at nine minutes, built on a Yoruba proverb about the indispensability of water, and by implication, the indispensability of the people those in power are busy trying to control. The groove lands between the two Africa 70 gears, slower and more hypnotic than the flat-out agitation tracks. It remains one of the most-covered songs in the Fela catalogue, attracting critical reappraisals from Femi Kuti, D'Angelo, Macy Gray, Questlove and Nile Rodgers over the years. Here it gets the 12" treatment, with Femi on the flip.
