By the time The Jesus Lizard released Down in 1994, alt-rock had long exploded and penetrated the commercial mainstream. Despite being a hair more subdued than the noise-rock band’s previous releases, the still-manic Down didn’t break through, but unlike most releases of the time, it didn’t compromise either. The Jesus Lizard’s final studio album for Touch & Go and last record produced by Steve Albini, it’s also the last essential statement the band put down on tape. And it’s never sounded better.

Part of Touch & Go’s stellar Jesus Lizard reissue campaignDown has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Bob Weston (Mission of Burma, Shellac) and original engineer Steve Albini. The new pressing presents Down in a sonic light that exceeds even the best expectations. There’s greater space between instruments, heightened dynamics, a more solidified midrange, and an incredible boost in energy. Benefitting from Albini’s dry, spare, and no-frills production, indie-rock has seldom sounded so dangerous, physical, blunt, or fervent.

Vinyl packaged in deluxe gatefold album jacket with 12” x 24” double sided color insert including never before seen photos, and extensive liner notes by the band and by journalists who were there when it was all happening. Vinyl also includes a digital download coupon for entire LP, plus 4 bonus tracks not included on the LP itself.
