The family that plays together stays together, and Holy Hive keeps it all in the family. This New York folk/soul band was started by cousins in love Homer Steinweiss and Paul Spring, along with their honorary brother Joseph ‘Tone’ Harrison. For their debut EP on Big Crown Records, they decided to start things off with a extended reunion enlisting all of their favorite players from the Big Crown Family and beyond. The backbone for all these songs is the accomplished Harpist Mary Lattimore, who gives her learned heartfelt accompaniment to every song on the aptly named Harping EP. Holy Hive is honored to also feature one of their favorite songwriters Sasami as a lead vocalist and collaborator on two tracks. Around this core, a cast of lively characters assemble to add their lines - Dave Guy on Trumpet, Nick Movshon on bass, Katie Jacoby and Kristine Kruta on Strings, Leon Michels on Vibes, and finally Jens Jungkurth, Chris Connors, and Alex Deturk as sound sculptors. Together they prepare a veritable potluck spread for your ears. So gather round the table, pick up your plate and pile the potato salad high and deep. Be prepared, because as Tony Soprano says, ‘Once you’re in this family, there is no getting out.’
