Reissue of the band's 1999 debut album for Ipecac's 25th anniversary.

Fantômas is an avant-garde metal supergroup formed in 1998 by Mike Patton, vocalist of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame, along with guitarist Buzz Osborne (of Melvins), bassist Trevor Dunn (also of Mr. Bungle), and drummer Dave Lombardo (formerly of Slayer). Their eponymous debut album, "Fantômas," released in 1999, is a groundbreaking work that defies conventional musical categorization.

The album consists of 30 tracks, each averaging about a minute in length, creating a whirlwind of sonic experimentation and intensity. Fantômas draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including film noir, comic books, and avant-garde music.

"Fantômas" showcases Mike Patton's vocal versatility, as he utilizes a wide range of vocal techniques, from eerie whispers to guttural screams, often adopting various personas to fit the album's thematic elements. The instrumentation is equally diverse, with Buzz Osborne's unconventional guitar work, Trevor Dunn's intricate bass lines, and Dave Lombardo's thunderous drumming combining to create a chaotic yet cohesive sonic landscape.

The album's tracks are often characterized by abrupt shifts in tempo, mood, and style, keeping the listener on edge throughout its duration. Fantômas seamlessly blends elements of metal, punk, jazz, and electronic music, pushing the boundaries of what is considered heavy music.
