Two of the greatest Techno 12"s of all time compiled on one handy doublepack, for those of you who dont wanna spend $$$ on the originals. Pressing is sick too!

Now of a near 30 year vintage, Convextion’s earliest work is future-proofed by a timeless vision of classic techno derived from the Texan artist’s adoration of Juan Atkins and Basic Channel as much as ‘80s synth-pop. To those keeping abreast of US techno imports at the time, and those attempting to fill in the gaps post-fact, both 12”s have gone down in legend as incredibly scarce but beautiful examples of the Motor City spirit divined from afar.

While unmistakably Detroit x Berlin in outlook, all four cuts are distinguished by a brand of romance and slinky sexiness that Hanson would sum up as “emotional punishment”, and, if you’re willing to zoom out a little, can be heard as a by-product of Houston’s space programme as much as its legendary Starck club, which played sleek synth-pop and new wave dance to a sharp-suited crowd who could pick up MDMA on the bar, before it was illegal.

Convextion’s balance of floaty, hair-kissing lushness galvanised with driving Detroit tekkerz epitomises the way 313 mechanics mutated outside the city. It’s all in place on the nine minutes of feathered bounce and shine-eyed pads to ‘Kuiper’ or its sage nod to Juan Atkins x BC in the motorik bassline and modulated dub chords of ‘Miranda’, and pushed to breathtaking degrees in the 9’ of skipping, tongue-tip thizz of ‘Ebullience’ and the utterly bawl-worthy bliss out ‘Niche’, which brings the club to its knees every time.

Life-affirming techno in a mode, mold, and mood that’s simply all too rare or hackneyed nowadays.
