Chrome were an experimental rock band formed in San Francisco in 1975. After their first album, the group’s mastermind, Damon Edge, met guitar player Helios Creed and the pair began developing the group’s signature sound collage / acid punk sound. On Half Machine Lip Moves, Chrome picks up where they left off with their second album, Alien Soundtracks, expanding on their trademark formula of disjointed collages of Stooges-esque riffs, tape experiments, electronic rhythms, cryptic vocals and fried science fiction themes. A post-punk masterpiece that sounds advanced even today, Half Machine Lip Moves remains a high mark of the late ’70s and early ’80s San Francisco experimental punk scene.
